Now Charlie has partnered with Louie Shelton, an iconic figure from the renowned L.A. Wrecking Crew and inductee in the Musicians Hall of Fame, he also happens to reside on the Gold Coast and continues to create magic in the music world even in his 80s. Louie’s guitar riffs and solos have been the backbone of countless hit records over the decades.
Louie's collaboration list reads like a hall of fame, including John Lennon, Whitney Houston, Lionel Ritchie, Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand, Quincy Jones, Henry Mancini, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Glenn Campbell, James Brown, The Jackson 5, Diana Ross, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Cocker, Kenny Rogers, The Monkees, The Partridge Family and many more. Beyond playing, Louie has produced numerous gold and platinum albums, including those of Seals & Crofts and Art Garfunkle.
In 1984, Louie relocated to Australia, where he founded a recording studio in Sydney. His influence extended to developing one of Australia's most successful bands, Noiseworks, and working with prominent artists like Tommy Emanuel, Rick Price, and Human Nature.
Through an inexplicable twist of fate the paths of Louie & Charlie converged in a fashion like no other that brought the 17 year old and an 83 yr old Louie together to create musical alchemy. Charlie has an unusual passion particulary for his age to revive Big Band music with his unique flair, silky voice and humble demeanour. For over 18 months, Louie has been meticulously producing a number of Charlie's original big band compositions with Gold Coast Big Band arranger Rick Best. This collaboration has now come to fruition with a live recording using 15 piece Gold Coast Big Band "Sweet Thunder", including the Legend himself on guitar. A sample of two of the 5 live studio recordings completed are highlighted below for private viewing only, these are not for public distribution or viewing without written prior consent from Charlie Mitchell's management.

Swing - Official Music Video Not For Public Distribution
Charlie's latest single called "SWING" was released on the 4th of November, recorded live alongside a Gold Coast based 15-piece big band called Sweet Thunder, conductor and arranger extrodinaire Rick Best. SWING is available to listen to on all major streaming platforms
Charlie came up with the lyrics to the song when discsussing potential new music ideas with his Father driving in the car 2 years ago. His father said "we need a bit more swing". Charlie' immediately jumped on that hook and then penned the rest of the catchy lyrics, speaking of a desire to revitalize a genre that has inspired countless artists and listeners alike over the decades. He sings about the swing era, dancing till you drop and dancing till the music stops, bring back swing, let sing for the King, no more pop, no more rock, no more of that hip hip hop.
Imagine the rich, brass-infused sounds and infectious rhythms that make you want to dance, all wrapped up in Charlie's fresh and youthful take. Another of Charlie's original songs scheduled to be released in early 2025, is "Bright Lights". This song was also recorded with Big Band Sweet Thunder and Producer Louie Shelton. This is scheduled to be released with a number of other original big band recordings that have already been completed including a couple of other popular cover songs.
Charlie was inspired by the idea of one day performing under the bright lights of entertainment meccas, Las Vegas & Hollywood. His lyrics mention the dream of Flying to the Moon and generally succeeding in life, including paying homage to some of his musical influences such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Junior & Billy Joel. He recognises how fortunate he's been to have the support of family and friends, and his mentors that have looked out for him. He invites everyone to join him on his journey to one day see the bright lights and perform in Vegas and Hollywood, a dream he's still striving to achieve.
